What This System Does

  • Provides a complete stand‑alone EFI engine management solution with throttle‑by‑wire for M8 engines.

What This System Will NOT Do

  • It is engine management only. lighting, switches, gauges, etc. require a separate harness/controller(s). 
  • No cruise control functionality is provided.
  • Not legal for sale or use in California on pollution‑controlled vehicles (race use intended).

Requirements

  • OEM or equivalent M8 throttle body #27300122 (throttle‑by‑wire) and crank position sensor.
  • Fuel tank with a Big Twin or XL fuel pump.
  • Aftermarket speedometer/fuel readout compatible with ’05–’10 Softail, ’05–’11 Dyna, or ’05–’13 Touring/XL configurations.
  • OEM‑style ignition coil (HD# 31600017) and speed sensor (HD# 74402‑05B).
  • Simple hookups: +12V power, ground, fuel pump, kill switch (and where applicable, fuel sending & serial data).

Fitment

  • Designed for 2017–2022 Harley‑Davidson M8 engines in custom applications (Softail, Touring, Trike, etc.).

Installation & Tuning Notes

Choose a secure ECM mounting location, then route the harness to the throttle body and sensors. O₂ sensors connect directly to the ThunderMax ECM. For ECM tuning, contact ThunderMax/ThunderHeart support as you would for standard ThunderMax kits.

FAQ

Does this replace my whole bike harness?

No. This kit manages the engine only. You’ll still need a separate chassis harness for lighting, switches, horn, indicators, and gauge power.

Will it work with my throttle body?

It’s engineered for the OEM M8 throttle‑by‑wire throttle body #27300122 (or an equivalent) on engines using a crank position sensor.

Who supports the ECM tuning?

ThunderMax/ThunderHeart provides tuning support for the included ECM, the same as their other ECM kits.

Is cruise control available?

No. This system does not provide cruise control functionality.


Builder Notes

For FXR and other custom chassis, pair this EFI system with a well‑planned fuel system (pump, regulator, return/vent plumbing) and a compatible speedo/fuel readout. Confirm throttle body clearance and plan harness routing before finalizing mounts to minimize rework.
